I arrived a little early to explore Bangkok, but soon got picked up to join the rest of the students into the program’s Home base. Day 1 consisted of getting to know everyone unpacking and getting settled in. The following day we had Orientation where we were split into groups and went on a little scavenger hunt. My group had walk to the nearest 7-11 (they have them too and almost on every block!!), get on a tuk tuk to specific street known for its wood work, and buy a small item made of wood as proof! Trying to communicate with the driver was pretty difficult and he did not know where we needed to go so he had to find another alternative, but after finding the street and picking an item we returned to the base and were the first team back! Later, each group spoke about the souvenirs and one had to bring back the most odd flavor they could find in a grocery store and they brought back Scallops with Garlic Butter flavored Lays! Lastly, to wrap up our day we had a language course were we learned some basic words to help us communicate and we even learned the different tones that come along with the Thai language. We learned some common phrases and how to say different numbers. All in all, it has been such a great experience being in Thailand and slowly learning different things about the culture.
