On Saturday we spent the morning at a spa receiving Thai massages. After that a van from the location we are staying at came to pick us up from our hotel. The next day we had orientation where we learned what we would be doing at our worksites, and some basic Thai language. We also were sent on a scavenger hunt given very little direction or translation to allow us to learn how to navigate the city. The following day involved exploring beautiful temples.
Today we began working at our worksites. My group spent the morning at a day care center where we taught the children how to brush their teeth, along with some English. We even got to play a game of duck duck goose. It was a great experience watching the children have a great time even with a language barrier. Next we went with a nurse at one of the local clinics to two of her patient’s houses to observe her checkup on them. Then we got a tour of the local hospital and even got to see an adorable hour old newborn.
Myself along with others have noticed we are quickly gaining a new perspective on ourselves and the way that we live. This experience is already so much more than I would have thought and I can’t wait for what is to come.
