On Monday we went to our new school to volunteer there for another three days. Our group decided that we would be with the Pre-K students for the first hour and the 4 graders for the next two hours. Immediately when walking into the school we saw a difference in behavior between schools. The children at this school were much more timid and we were unsure of why that was.
One of the main things that surprised me at the school was their food portion sizes. I noticed this when I first came to Thailand too, at first I had to adjust to the smaller portion sizes. The children’s meal consisted of a small cup of rice, some sort of liquid dressing, and a watermelon. This is vastly different than America. What I also found interesting was that they all had little toothbrushes and cups with their meal as well. The school teaches all the children how to brush their teeth. My professor explained to us that some of the particles in the water cause cavities, which is why the schools insist the children regularly brush their teeth.
