I’ve been back in the United States, in New Jersey, for about a week and a half now. I noticed the differences almost immediately as I walked into the Newark Airport and walked outside of it. The air was different, harder the breath, and everyone around was in such a rush, tired, unhappy. The food was almost too sugary and too sweet for me enjoy, when I used to love these flavors. My father bought me a Wendy’s sandwich on the drive back from the airport and it was almost difficult to eat it, due to being accustomed to such flavorful and fresh food all month.
After spending a month in Belize it almost felt as if I lived there, it became my home and my sanctuary. I connected with locals and fell in love with the nature, food, and atmosphere of the country. The trip was perfect, and it only strengthened my love for animals and the environment and my desire to one day own a conservation of my own. Doing so will be difficult, I will need a lot of land, volunteers, donation money, and hard working days. However, despite the difficulties of being a large animal vet or wildlife biologist, there is nothing else that i’d rather spend my life doing.
Being back in the U.S. only makes me want to pack up and travel again, and I cannot wait until I can return to Central America in the future.
