So, tomorrow is the day. Tomorrow, I leave for England (already?) and I cannot believe how quickly the date has come upon me. I am beyond excited for my journey, as well as I am blessed and honored. When else in my life will I be able to travel to Europe for a month? I do not anticipate many opportunities like this in my near future. Currently, my head is spinning from all the advice I’ve been given lately. “Be safe”, “Make good choices”, “Call/text me whenever you can”, “Use cash for better exchange rates”, “No, use credit cards because they give the best exchange rates”. I understand my friends and family want to make sure I have a safe and exciting trip abroad, but I thought they would have a bit more faith in me. However, I also know with all thats going on in the world, we must always take precautions.
One of the most common things I’ve heard when I told people I’m studying abroad in England this summer is that I am coming at such a great time because of “Brexit”. Although I still do not understand the politics of the issue, I know that the US Dollar is now worth more British Pounds than it was a month ago. This means that my hard-earned money can now buy me more than it could before, which has fueled my excitement even more.
I will be studying at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England and I will be taking the “Health in a Global Perspective” module. I am excited to learn about why certain groups of people have certain health standards and life expectancies. I am also curious to do my own independent study on the matter since independent study is not as common in the states. Check in with me later!
