I unfortunately came home from the Cayman Islands last night around 12 AM, so, I did not have time to write a post the night before I left because I had to wake up early to pack the next morning. Anyway, the last few days in Little Cayman were some of the best of my life. The people I have met from all over the world, the food I have tried, the diving I have done are only a few of the things I am going to miss most about the island. Everything is very sustainable (from the modes of transportation to the entire research facility being run on rain water). Everyone was very natural with their diets and with the way they looked. Essentially no one wore make-up. I’m going to miss that lifestyle the most.
On the last full day we presented our posters to all of the CCMI staff. The experience was only slightly nerve-wracking because they are just so much more knowledgeable about the topics we presented, so they did drill us with some questions. However, all in all it was a great learning experience. After that we presented these two minute videos where we filmed a fish’s behavior and then paired a song with the behavior of the fish. Those were hilarious, or I guess you have to be a fish nerd to get the humor. After all of that we snorkeled out to Owens Island and spent a few hours relaxing, kayaking and paddleboarding. To finish the night, we went to Salt Rock Dock and barbequed, networked and said goodbye.
This trip was definitely the best experience of my life thus far.
