The botanical garden in Rio de Janeiro is incredibly beautiful and designed to fit into the edge of the Tijuca Forest. And, in the usual comforting way, I could see the Christ throughout my visit to it. Not only that, but the walking trail to the Christ starts in the garden and works its way upward. Victoria and I had a great walk through the car paths up, but the thought of doing it this way sounded much more immersive. There were different types of monkeys circling us from above, coming down the trees to eat pieces of jack fruit, showing how lively it would be to take the path.
The botanical garden was more lush than any I have yet experienced, indebted to the rich climate of the city. The variety of plants was awesome. There were succulents and cacti circling around ponds of lilly pads, next to the sensory garden and flowing and cascading water paths, which followed downhill aside the forest. Large foliage would peek out, named ‘Ribs-of-Adam’, making luscious corners. There were green houses and placements of different kinds, so much so that we were not done looking by the time the garden was closing. We did not even see all of the greatness in this place, but it sets out a great encyclopedia for design throughout the city. As we were leaving, there were signs announcing how the garden is working on providing better access to the public, which sounds even more promising. From this alone, I would say there are great things going on in the planning of this city. But this would not be the only example of that.
