I saw an iceberg for the first time in my life today! Arriving to the airport in Reykjavik at about 6:30 AM was an experience I will never forget. Being nervous that this is my first time out of the country, I didn’t really know what to expect. It was a relief to quickly find other students in the GREEN Program huddled by a coffee shop in the airport. Immediately I began to make friends with other students in the program. I was very happy to meet students from all over the U.S that are interested in the same environmental issues as I am. Instantly I felt a sense of belonging and as if I had a purpose in life by being a part of something this awesome. After we all gathered in the airport we loaded up the bus and started heading towards the coast line where we stopped to check out a few different different geospots and landmarks in Iceland. We hiked about a mile deep into these icy volcanic caves and visited a cliff right by the ocean. I was overwhelmed by how much geothermal energy there was right beneath our feet as we walked around a geyser park (not to mention that the saturation of sulfur in the area made the air smell like hard boiled eggs)! I truly felt like I was on a completely different planet!!
