day 4
After vaccinating a whole herd of cows yesterday, we went to a super cool pretty horse farm/ resort place today. Am old bearded white man greeted us in his paradise. We did physical exams on all of his horses. We were essentially just playing around with them, but like playing doctor, but again actually being doctors. They had a lot of ticks, and I was surprised. Ruben told me that they spray them every two weeks, but within that time they get so many again. I also saw one horse with a lot of blood down its neck and I got worried and asked Dr. T and he said that was from vampire bats!!! WOW. We soon split into two different groups. One went on to ride horses, and my group chilled for a little and then went over to another location, which I think was the owners house? And we saw a couple of adorable Rhodesian Ridgeback/pitbull mixes. Dr. T all of a sudden was like, so yea we are doing a neuter on this pup over here. A beautiful cutiepie brindle was sitting in a fenced cage. Ruben started prepping and he told me, hey grab some gloves. Me and Mariah we thrown into the situation, but yea we helped out completely! with the neuter and it was UNREAL. I held the testicles n all and then I sutured up?!!?!??!? UNREAL PEOPLE!!!! We didn’t even have the suture clinic where we practiced yet!!! Lol but I think I did a pretty good job haha and Dr. T said so too so I was happey :).
Afterwards, as a treat, we went horseback riding on our patients lol. Belize is a beautiful country and I can’t say it enough. The tour guide person made us eat a really bitter malaria plant and also allspice which I LOVED. It was beautiful. We then had lunch and saw so pretty humming birds and I was so amazed.
After, we went cave canoeing. I volunteered to steer, but bad choice because I was soooo stressed hahaha. It was really cool though. Afterwards we jumped off the cliff outside the cave. My heart was PALPITATING. So scared omg but I actually did it after much peer pressure lol. It started raining and it was really pretty outside just absorbing everything. But then I got cold and me and Giulia ran to the van lol.
We passed by Mennonites on the drive back and it was like we were in the 1600s?. It was so interesting. Ruben was telling us about their customs, like how the men wouldn’t speak to us girls because we are not clothed like their women, and etc, and it was so interesting. They didn’t like pictures too so I’m just like aw man how do I remember them mmmmm.
We ended the night with dinner at Hodes :’)
