Wow– so much has happened, here’s a quick breakdown.
Day 3
Today we went to the cattle farm and vaccinated anddewormed 80 cattle. The weather was perfect and the view was even better; this country is truly so beautiful. Afterwards, we went up to the farm owners house and picked starfruit and oranges of the trees, it was amazing.
Afterwards, we went to a small village called Arenal to tell everyone about the free clinic we’re doing later in the week. When we approached people they seemed pretty shy, but all were willing to talk to us. It makes sense, I’d be really confused and nervous if a bunch of people wearing scrubs speaking in a different language walked up to my house. But everyone was very nice regardless.
Day 4
Today was incredible. We went and vaccinated and gave Vitamin B shots to horses, and then went horseback riding through the forest. It was so beautiful. Afterwards, we went cave canoeing. Wow, what an incredible experience. I can’t even describe it, it’s something that you have to experience for yourself. After canoeing we climbed up outside the cave and jumped off into the water. Then it started down pouring and it was just so perfect. Today was a kind of day that I will remember forever.
Day 5
Today we practiced suturing. We practiced on the chicken thighs and then we watched and helped with a neuter. I got to help stitch the dog up afterwards. 
They don’t use anesthesia here, just a heavy sedative; our dog woke up in the middle of surgery screaming until we gave him more sedative. They were saying how out in the field if there is no suture material they would sterilize the string from a feed bag and a needle to suture and it would work great. Its crazy how different and innovative things are here. I think when I finish vet school I want to practice somewhere like Belize for a couple years out of my career and then go back because I think I can learn an insane amount, stuff that just can’t be taught.
Then we went to the horse races. It was so cool to interesting and so much fun. A lot of the guy just hopped on the horses without a saddle and just raced them bareback, no shoes no helmet or anything! But it seemed like the whole town came out and everyone was just enjoying being there. Its cool that anyone can come and race any horse with whatever they have. It did concern me a lot though, because the track did have good footing at all and was filled with a ton of huge holes everywhere. I’m surprised there aren’t a lot more injuries!
