Hello!!
I was not sure what I will gain from studying abroad when I was applying for Microbiology and Culture of Cheese and Wine but I was excited to learn about cheese and wine. The two-week course in France ended smoothly. I learned a lot from this experience. Study abroad is not just learning about science or things related to your major but it has more aspects to it. Leaning about cheese and wine is also diving into the culture of France as they are the gastronomic heritage of France. I liked the France approach towards protection of their heritage. The wine and cheese protection laws are really praiseworthy. This experience has also given me the opportunity for the personal development as a person as I was in the different environment. I have become more open and not afraid to go out from my comfort zone now. My course was a really nice mix of both culture and science. I learned about the production and microbiology of cheese and wine and learning became easier because I actually saw the process by visiting dairies and wineries. I have also gained a taste for wine as the trip progressed because my first wine tasting on the second day I really didn’t understand that wine can contain different flavor but as more wines, I tasted realized the different flavors and how the production of wine helps in the development of different flavors. The other aspect is that you get to travel and the fun part is that you can get a scholarship to travel while studying. I would encourage every student to go for study abroad because it is one of the must-have experience.
