Since there is 4 of us working at Pueblo Nuevo we made a decision to switch our worksites after 2 weeks. My partner and I were in the clinic and the other 2 girls were in the casa de dia (community center). So now it is our turn to work in the community center where we’re going to do activities with the elderly for most of our time. Our first day with them was a little confusing because their Spanish teacher never came. We learned from Dr. G that some of the older generation don’t know how to write or read Spanish, just speak it. Since their teacher didn’t show up, we decided to help those who wanted to practice while another group decided to knit. After some got tired of practicing we started playing dominos. I’ve never played so much dominos in my life, but they were enjoying so that’s what matters. My partner and I want to do some chair exercises with them soon because they seem to like the idea of it. The workers of the community center always make breakfast for the elderly so we got offered to eat today too, I am never hungry here though my mom seems to think I’m starving. They served us chilakiles, which are just tortillas in a tomato sauce and cheese, but it’s really good.
There’s a lot of stray dogs in the streets, even more so around this community center because sympathetic souls feed the dogs. After we finish our day we walk down the hill and stop at an Oxxo which is the equivalent of a 7-eleven and get some treats for our hour bus ride. My friend got an ice cream that looked like a banana and you could peel it too! Mexican candy is not really my thing put its 10/10 in the creativity department.
