The first class I took for the plant biology program was ‘Indoor Cultivation of High Value Crops’ where we studied various crops in a greenhouse environment. During this course we discussed many topics, but a major one was how the Netherlands has become a global leader in greenhouse production and how they were able to achieve that prestigious status in the agricultural industry. Fast forward to the end of the year and I am now preparing to travel to the Netherlands to witness the agricultural productions of this country firsthand. I have traveled outside of the country before, but this will be my first time to Europe. In addition, taking this course still allows me to graduate on time, which is definitely an added bonus. As far as expectations go I really do not have any in the sense I do not want to come into a new country with any preconceived notions about what I “think” should be happening. Simply put, I intend to immerse myself in the country’s culture by listening, observing, and trying as many new things as possible to understand the culture of the Netherlands as authentic as I can in just one short week.
