Hi everyone! I’m Sofia Fernandes and I am a rising sophomore in the Pre-Veterinary program! In less than one day, I will be hopping onto a plane to Belize where I will be taking the CELA Large Animal Veterinary Practices in the Tropics two-week course. I cannot even believe that I am actually doing this…it really feels like a dream. I have spent the last couple of days completely overthinking what to/how much to pack. One thing that I did not need to worry about, though, were scrubs because an extremely kind and generous lady from the next town over from mine gifted me a bunch of scrubs to choose from. I, of course, chose the 5 most ridiculous and colorful sets…
My favorite obviously was the one covered in dogs!
I am spending my last full day in New Jersey saying goodbye to friends and family and also just tying up loose ends with my packing, currency, and overall organization.
Despite my week of endless preparations, I do not think anything will prepare me for the excitement and happiness that I am going to feel once I arrive in Belize and begin taking my classes. I cannot wrap my head around the fact that I am not only going to be able to get hands-on work with both farm animals and cats and dogs, but I am also going to be able to experience a new culture in one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Once I get my BFF out of my suitcase I will be ready to start my adventure!
