The semester abroad to Germany will start this coming Sunday, and our first stop is Berlin! Aside from packing for the trip, today marks the first day of our German lessons.
Professor Poldi Binder was invited to teach our German lessons, and she made sure to keep us entertained while teaching us at the same time. Since it was our first day, we focused on greetings, simple exchanges, and the numbers 1-12. We then progressed to conversation exercises, which was a fun and memorable way to learn. I’m honestly not sure if I can remember everything that we will be learning, especially when there is still three more days left of the lessons. I’m sure that some phrases or words will stick before departing, but whether or not I’ll be able to catch them in conversations is another issue.
As for packing, I haven’t even started. I roughly know what clothes I’m going to bring, but that is all. A friend who went on this trip last semester recommended bringing a medium size suitcase instead of a carry-on, so I bought one yesterday. It took me a long time to figure out what size is considered “medium,” but in the end, I’ll just use the suitcase that can fit everything I need. We were told to pack light, but after looking at the weather forecast in Germany, it seems like we’ll need to pack some thicker clothes to prepare for the cold and the rain as well. As for the other luggage options, I’ll just think of them as I go through these last days before departure.
