你好！Hallo!

I’m so excited to share with everyone my plans for this summer! I have a ton planned, and many goals to accomplish. As a side note, my first “abroad” experience was this past March in Germany, so I have a lot on my plate for Summer 2019.

First stop: Beijing and Xi’an, China Independent Study

I will be travelling to China as a part of the Roy DeBoer Travel Prize, a great opportunity given to me from the Rutgers Department of Landscape Architecture. My proposal includes going to various night markets in Xi’an to study and observe the structure, program, function, and use of night markets. My travel will also include two short stops in Beijing during my arrival and departure flights, so that should be an interesting experience as well. The duration of my stay in China will be 10 days. I am a little nervous/shy about using my Chinese skills from high school, but they will definitely be useful – 谢谢邵老师!

 

Second Stop: Berlin and Essen, Germany Study Abroad

I will be participating in the Landscape Architecture Department’s Germany five-week Study Abroad this trip as part of my travel experience this summer. Along with my fellow classmates and professors, I plan to study the various landscapes of Germany and work with German LA students on a studio project. This portion of my travel consists of full days of class and travel. I am looking forward to visit Germany again, both because I feel comfortable with the transportation systems and local culture, and because I want to experience the new challenges that come along with studying abroad there.

 

Third Stop: Essen, Germany Internship

Not really a third stop… but an extended stay! After the study abroad program ends, I will be moving to a new apartment in Essen to intern at the Emschergenossenschaft – the oldest public water board in Germany. My studio from the Spring 2019 semester has been working with them, which has been a great experience. I am looking forward to experiencing life and employment in a different country, while continuing to gain experience in the field of landscape architecture.

 

I will be out of the country for about three and a half months. It will a once-in-a-lifetime experience for sure. Thank you to all of my family, friends, and professors for support, and the SEBS International Office for helping financially with this experience.
