This week in Berlin has been very eye opening so far. We have traveled to the Berlin Wall and a couple Holocaust Memorials. There is a huge difference between the Berlin Wall Memorial and the Holocaust Memorials though. The Berlin Wall has several locations where people can come and learn of the history. However the Berlin Wall was much more lively, people were playing and laying in the grass around, and there was a LOT of graffiti. Compared to this, the Holocaust Memorial was super quiet and solemn. It was definitely more of a place that people knew they had to respect. There were images, videos, and voice recordings of what exactly was happening and this really shocked me. People with disabilities, terminally ill patients, and homosexuals were totally wiped out. Reading the timeline history of the Holocaust definitely hit me a bit and was a much more impactful experience than seeing the Berlin Wall, although that was also a different type of terrible time in history.
