Our professors took us to a lot of places to learn about German culture and landscape architecture from the view, the plantings, the walkways, etc. One of the structures that he really liked to bring us is towers. We have been to three different towers that provided us different sides of Berlin. My favorite one is the one at Potsdam, in Belvedere Pfingstberg.
Belvedere Pfingstberg is located on a hill; we had to walk up the mountain to get there. The walk was not bad; on our way there, I asked my professor: do you come here often? Even though you do not have a class? He replied he does, and he said I would know why when I got to the top.
Once we got there, we saw a beautiful palace, with a central reflecting pool. Everything was very symmetrical, every structured detail displayed the stately respect towards the royalties back in the days. Then, our professor led us to the top of the tower, and I immediately knew why did he say that once I saw that wisp of blue sky. Maybe because it was the last stop of that day, maybe because we walked a lot while expecting the view; the scene was spectacular. Since Berlin does not have many high rises, and the tower was built upon a hill, we got to see the complete view of berline. The sky, the river, and the greeneries, they all mixed together as beautiful paintings, those little buildings added in energy for the art. The breeze embraces me, the air was different, everything was so perfect. It was a really pleasant experience.
As I was walking down the tower, I told my professor “This is my favorite tower, I am happy that I can see the whole horizon of Berlin!” “That’s great.”
