Now that I have been working in lab for a little while I have a much better understanding of what I am working on. The lab that I am working in specializes in Notch signaling, a conserved pathway that plays a key role in cell development and in diseases such as Alzheimers. I am working on two separate but related sub projects. First I am working on building a perfusion chamber that will be able to wash and treat cells with different chemicals all while they are being observed under the microscope. This will allow us to treat cells in different ways and observe the resulting effects all in real time. Second I will be working on microscopy and labeling important parts of the notch pathway which will help us further understand the mechanism of the pathway. I am extremely interested in the work I am doing and I genuinely enjoy going to work everyday. I hope to continue learning new and interesting things about this field through the hands on work I am doing.
Good luck on your projects and hope you are learning a lot from it! Keep us posted and don’t forget to post some pictures so we can see what it’s like there 🙂
