This week was the start of the trip when we are in Essen. The train to Essen was 4 hours. So far I think Essen is very different and I can see why it is not a tourist attraction. The place that we are staying is extremely nice. We went to Phoenix See and I thought that was really cool. Phoenix See is a lake built on top of an old steel plant. The steel plant was disassembled and sold to China. The water in the lake goes through a phosphorus removal process to keep the water from going green. In addition to this, the water quality is to the same standards as drinking quality water. Although boats are allowed, it is kept to non-motorized to keep pollutants out. The style of the houses designed was very modern and made the place have character. On the second day in Essen, we went to Düsseldorf. Düsseldorf is built along the Rhine river and is very beautiful. I really enjoyed the scenery and just overall look. I am excited for the days to come.
