Today we had the first site visit for our studio project. Our site was at Westpark in Bochum. This site was on the grounds of an old coal and steel plant. We had to evaluate different sounds in space. To do this we had to go to a series of different spots and use an NTI sound pressure meter. This device required us to stand for 3 minutes and record what was happening at the site. Unfortunately, it was a hot, sunny day with limited shade in the areas that my group was evaluating. Overall I thought our site was very interesting. I have never evaluated sounds in a landscape before. Our overall task was to come up with a solution for the old rail line that was in the undeveloped section of Westpark. This will provide a connection between the city of Bochum and the other side of the park.
