Hi everyone! My name is Valerie Collado and I am a rising sophomore studying pre-veterinary animal science. In about 6 hours I will be boarding my flight to Belize to take part in CELA’s Large Animal Veterinary program. I definitely am feeling all my packing was a bit rushed since I was so busy these last couple of weeks. I came back from visiting some family in Florida just a week ago and now I will be already leaving to Belize! Not to mention I was also cat-sitting my sisters cute kitties just a couple of days ago. But after all that I’m finally ready to go. I am getting up pretty early to catch my flight and I probably should be asleep right now, but all the excitement is keeping me up!

When applying for this program, I truly never thought it would be financially feasible, so I am extremely thankful to the many generous donors that make the SEBS (and other) scholarships possible. While I have worked with large animals, this program will be the first hands-on veterinary experience I will get, and I think it will be a great way for me to dive in! I honestly do not know what exactly to expect, but I have only heard good things about this program so I’m excited to find out!
