We started off our day having breakfast in the hotel, which will be routine for the next two weeks. The breakfast provides a wide array of food to cater to both American and Asian tastes. From there, we headed upstairs to our language class. During this class, we learned “survival language”, meaning phrases that we absolutely should know to get around by ourselves during our escapades. Our teacher helps train members of the peace corps in Thailand, so we were excited to learn from her! The class was a lot of fun as we learned about the culture and history of Thailand. We were introduced to our teachers Pimsuda and Nat, who will be with us for the next two weeks to teach us about Thai culture and the healthcare system. We also met a recent Rutgers alumni, Sam Snyder, who will be in Thailand for 10 months in Southern Thailand teaching English for Princeton in Asia. He gave us some good recommendations of where to go in Bangkok.

We then went to Khaosan road which is a heavy backpacker and tourist strip with lots of street food, souvenirs, and hotels. The strip was overwhelming for me because of all the fumes and people, but it was a cool experience to bargain for souvenirs as well as see all the different food they were offering. The food looked tempting to eat, but as our professor warned us, it is best to stray away from eating street food because of food borne illnesses.
