Day 10 Horse Fun 1/6/20
Breakfast was at 7:00 am & I had the Belizean breakfast. It had refried beans, fry jacks, eggs, pepper jelly, and bacon.
We went to a horse farm to perform physical exams! The horses were SO friendly! Everything was normal so we just gave them a tetanus shot & a dewormer.
The owner of the horse farm also showed us a Belizean soursop fruit tree!
There was a mini lagoon we found at the farm so we all jumped in β€οΈ thank goodness I had my bathing suit under my scrubs just in case haha!
Around 1:30, I had a buffalo chicken burger with a side of rice and beans from a restaurant next to Midas resort called Hodes! I’ll admit, Hodes doesn’t have the best food but it’s good to get for a quick bite! And its cheap!
We then got to vaccinate Dr T’s sheep and lambs!! IT WAS THE CUTEST THING! I also love that in Belize, you get a crazy amount of knowledge and consistent practice!
For dinner, I had stew beans with coconut rice and chicken with a Belizean blended chocolate coffee drink from Authentic flavors! I highly recommend going there! It was so good! I fell in love with all the cultural decorations in the restaurant!
Then, I worked on some homework and went to bed!
Day 11 Beef Cattle & House calls 1/7/20
Breakfast was at 8 am today and I had french toast with eggs & fruit! (I personally did not like the french toast because it was really soft and I like my french toast a little crunchy haha so I don’t recommend)
We then gave injections to Dr T’s cousin’s beef cattle! It was so much fun learning how to do it!
I ate lunch at Ko-Ox-Han-Nah (aka hanna’s) and I had the chicken quesadillas with a pineapple yogurt drink. I recommend going to hannas if you are looking to eat decent and cheap food. It’s also better than Hodes.
We joined Dr. T on some house calls he received for the day. For the first house call, we learned how to identify the symptoms of blackleg for cattle. For the second house call, we saw Dr. T remove a wart from a dogs back right leg.
We ate dinner around 7 pm at D’sky bistro and I had the carbonara pasta! It was AMAZING! D’sky bistro is my 2nd favorite place to eat at in San Ignacio Belize! (My #1 being Guava Limb). For dessert, I had the toasted coconut cheesecake! π
I worked on homework and fell asleep!
Day 12: horse fun continued & caves 1/8/20
I ate breakfast at 8 am & had the fruit platter (ingredients are listed in my past posts)
We did physical exams on horses & after, we went horse back riding!!! It was SO BEAUTIFUL! My horse’s name was Chica haha! While riding, I saw an all spice plant, an aloe vera plant, and a lime tree!
For lunch, we had a homemade Belizean chicken soup made from the owners of the horse farm. The soup was really spicy because of all the peppers, onions, and all spice haha! But it was REALLY good.
We then observed a castration! I got to assist! β€οΈ it was so much fun! I never got to see or do one before!
We also got to inject and give dewormers to horses which I loved because I needed more practice on administering injections.
We went to 2 house calls with Dr. T. We gave injections & dewormers for the dogs at each house!
Then, we went cave canoeing!! The cave turned all dark at one point & the only way to see was using a flashlight! There was also vampire bats flying above us!! It was one of the most thrilling and exciting things I’ve ever done!
Then, we ate dinner at guava limb (aka the BEST place to eat at in Belize). I had the greek pizza with hot Italian sausage instead of tomatoes & I ordered a strawberry cheesecake! π₯°
I worked on my powerpoint presentation and then got ready for the next day!
