I am incredibly curious about Thailand. As a science student, I of course have to do a ton of research before the trip. For the past few days here at the end of the semester, I have been reading tons of travel blogs and watching videos on Netflix about Thai street food. Apparently, the Thai are very passionate about food and eat a lot. Thier street food is apparently the best in the world! I keep saying apparently because I have yet to discover it myself. Popular dishes are of course Pad Thai, our favorite in America, Tom yum soup, and coconut curries. When I found out I was going to Thailand, I ordered Tom yum soup at my local Asian fusion restaurant to try it. It was really good, and it encapsulated the Thai food concept of sweet, sour, spicy, and savory. While I am there, I am going to have to step out of my comfort zone and try new foods. Other dishes I want to try are curries and fruit. Thailand has many different fruits than us in the US, and I am so exited to experience new flavors. We will be going to a fruit plantation and they grow several fruits there that I have never heard of. Will they possibly be my new favorite fruit? Here is my book that I hope will guide me when ordering food!
Besides food, I am most curious about traveling through the different areas of Thailand. We will be in the city, by the coast, in the mountains, and in the jungle. I am a little wary of the malaria pills because I have not heard great things. Lets see how it goes for those 7 days… Besides that, I have never explored the jungle. Seeing the diversity of life there and the dense forest is one of the top experiences I hope to gain from the trip. As an environmental Science major, I am always excited to visit a new biome! The mountains will be interesting, too. I always love the air there and all the views. I had no idea that crops are grown up at altitudes like that, so I am curious about the types of crops that grow there and how the climate affects how they taste. I am used to corn in hilly fields and maybe some soybeans, or an apple orchard. Who knows what we will find on the Thai mountain. Here is my neighborhood agricultural field:
