Is your student planning international travel?
International students in F-1 or J-1 status are eligible to participate in all global opportunities presented to students including research and study abroad. They can also travel overseas for vacation. Regardless of the purpose of the trip, international students must get a travel signature on their I-20 or DS-2019 prior to their departure if they are planning to return to the US to complete their studies. In order to return, students must have a valid US visa in addition to the signed I-20 or DS-2019. For travel signature request procedure, please visit the Rutgers Global-ISSS website.
If a student wishes to travel overseas while attending Rutgers, they will need to review visa requirements for any country to which they would like to visit.
