It can be intimidating for international students to navigate healthcare system in the US if they are not accustomed to it. But if you maintain active health insurance coverage, it may be easier than assumed.
At Rutgers, all students are required to have at least a minimum level of health insurance coverage. Rutgers offers the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) that meets all the requirements and it is automatically charged to students’ term bill upon registering for classes. If you have other comparable health insurance, you may waive the SHIP and opt for alternate coverage. In that case, you must take specific action in order to have the automatic insurance charges removed from your term bill. The waiver instructions are available through Rutgers Global Programs & Partnerships. For more information about health insurance or for questions for international students, including enrollment and costs, please visit the Rutgers Global-ISSS website.
Please note that under HIPAA and FERPA , students’ health records are considered confidential and may not be released without their consent.
