Double Major, Minor, and Certificate programs
While your main priority is to complete your primary major, as a Rutgers and SEBS student, you are allowed to have a second major, any minor and/or certificate that interests you. It is especially important for double-degree students to prioritize their primary major before taking on another major. Depending on which school you are coming from, it may be mandatory to complete your major program within 2 years of being at SEBS. While some majors are easier to pair with your declared major (such as Food Science major and Nutrition minor), some may take some additional planning to accomplish within a certain timeframe. Please discuss with your academic adviser as soon as you know you want an additional major or a minor, as this may lead you to be at Rutgers for a longer period of time.
Master of Business and Science (M.B.S.)
The M.B.S. allows selected students to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Business and science degree in five years (4+1). The M.B.S. is a hybrid degree combining courses from a Master of Science (M.S.) and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.). Students choose an applied science concentration that is paired with a business curriculum. Several undergraduate programs at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences have been paired in this way including biotechnology and genomics, food science, horticulture and turfgrass science, international agriculture, sustainability, and urban environmental analysis.
Since students apply to this program in their junior year, interested 2+2 students should discuss with their academic adviser as soon as possible as the decision has to be made during the first year of study at Rutgers. If accepted, you will complete your coursework in your second and third years at Rutgers. To be eligible, you must have a GPA of 3.2 and must have completed 90 credits by the end of your sixth semester. For more information, visit the M.B.S. website.
