Participating in a 3+2 program gives students valuable academic experience from two institutions, finishing with both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. Students complete the first three years of their studies at their home institution and continue on for another two years at Rutgers. At the end of their program, they receive a bachelor’s degree from their home institution and a master’s degree from Rutgers. Below is a list of institutions with which we have 3+2 program agreements and the possible areas of study.
- Tianjin University: Environmental Sciences
- Zhejiang University: Environmental Sciences
Students in these programs will be connected to both the New Brunswick School of Graduate Studies as well as the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS). Since the students’ two years at Rutgers are graduate-level studies, these programs will be administered through the New Brunswick School of Graduate Studies. This means that the admissions process for all prospective graduate students will be processed by the Graduate and Professional Admissions Office. The New Brunswick School of Graduate Studies encompasses all graduate-level programs at Rutgers with roughly 4,400 graduate students. However, individual programs are much smaller in size and are quite competitive.
On the academic side, all courses, advising and academic administration will be managed by the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences and the particular departments of each program. For example, each SEBS department with a graduate program has a graduate program coordinator who oversees the academic organization of the program. For 3+2 students in Environmental Sciences, please see the Graduate Program in Environmental Sciences website for more information about this particular graduate program.
The 3+2 program in Environmental Sciences offers concentrations in the areas of: Air Pollution Science and Technology, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Microbiology, and Pollution Prevention and Control.
In order to apply, prospective students must follow the application guidelines for the New Brunswick School of Graduate Studies, outlined on our International Graduate Student Admissions page, in addition to the guidelines listed below which are specific to the 3+2 program in Environmental Sciences.
